Whale Migration

June signals the beginning of the annual whale migration, as humpback and southern right whales make their way from the food-rich southern ocean to breeding grounds in the warm northern waters. The whales then return south in November to the colder seas to grow and mature.

Avon Descent

The Avon Descent is Western Australia’s own unique sporting event that attracts participants and spectators from throughout Australia and, increasingly, overseas.
Participants challenge the Avon and Swan Rivers in a variety of paddle and power craft in an exciting two-day time trial over 133 gruelling kilometres. Conditions range from long stretches of flat water through to white water rapids - sure to test the skills of all who attempt to navigate their contours.
The Avon Descent passes through some of Western Australia’s most picturesque country. As you travel, you’ll pass through the farming regions of historic Northam and Toodyay, forested national parks, steep gorges, the Swan Valley vineyard region and eventually, into the tidal waters of the upper Swan River.

Red Bull Air Race and Festival

In its third year, the Red Bull Air Race World Series concludes in Perth over the Swan River for the second time with the city skyline as the race backdrop. The event will run over two days with qualifying taking place on Saturday 3 November and Race Day on Sunday 4 November, 2007.
