By road

You need a current license to drive a rental car or motorhome in Western Australia and there are plenty of rental companies to choose from.

You can save on car hire by asking the car rental companies if they have any vehicles that need relocating. This can save up to $200 per day. The reason for the discount is because it saves the company having to pay an employee to drive the vehicles and often having to fly them back. You may also hire the car for a few extra days at a discount. It is worth asking any rental company for savings like that!

If you are planning on driving into remote areas ensure you have spare petrol, plenty of water, and food and that the car you are driving is in good condition. Let someone know of your plans, just in case.

If you're not used to driving on the left hand side of the road, ask your passengers to remind you every time you get behind the wheel.

Never hitchhike or pick up hitchhikers in Western Australia.
